Talk to a human

Still stuck, or found something that feels like a bug? Email support@harktime.com. It helps us if you include your device (e.g. “iPhone 14”), the HARK version (You → About, at the bottom), and what you tapped just before the problem. We aim to reply within 2 business days.

01 Getting started

New to HARK, or wondering how the practice works.

What is HARK, in one sentence?

HARK is a five-minute practice of listening prayer. It gives you a quiet, guided space to slow down, notice what surfaces, test it against Scripture, and carry one thing into your day. It’s a companion, not a replacement for prayer, Scripture, or people.

Do I need an account to try it?

No. You can do full sessions without signing in, and everything stays on your device. You only need an account for the parts that involve other people: joining a HARK Circle, posting to the public Community, or syncing HARK Pro across devices.

Do I have to be a Christian to use HARK?

No. HARK is built around Christian listening prayer, but the practice of quieting yourself and noticing what surfaces is open to anyone. Engage with the Scripture parts as deeply or lightly as fits you.

How do I do my first session?
  1. Open HARK and tap Listen (the main button).
  2. Pick a track or take the default. Put in earbuds if you have them.
  3. Let the guide walk you through the five movements: Prepare, Listen, Reflect, Discern, and Act. There’s no wrong way.
  4. At the end you can keep it private, save a journal note, add HARK Insights, or share a piece with your Circle. All of it is optional.
What’s the fastest way in? (Golden Five)

Golden Five is one tap. It starts a five-minute listen with your settings already in place, with no setup and no walkthrough. It has three doors:

  • The pill on Home. Tap it; you’re listening.
  • Long-press the HARK app icon on your home screen. That takes you straight into Listen without opening the app first.
  • “Hey Siri, Golden Five in HARK.” Say it and go. (iOS may take a few minutes after first install to learn the phrase.)

If you finished the atmosphere step in onboarding, your first Golden Five starts straight away; the short atmosphere setup appears only if you never chose one. If a session is already open, all three doors politely stand down rather than interrupt it.

02 Signing in & your account

Trouble getting in, or managing your account.

I’m not receiving my sign-in email / code
  1. Check your spam / junk and “Promotions” folders. The email comes from a no-reply address.
  2. Make sure you typed the same email you signed up with (a typo sends it into the void).
  3. Wait a full minute, then tap Resend. Sending too fast in a row can trip a rate limit.
  4. Add harktime.com to your contacts / safe senders and try once more.
  5. Still nothing after a few minutes? Email support@harktime.com and we’ll sort it out.
Sign-in says something went wrong right away

Usually this is a weak connection or a paused session. Try, in order:

  1. Switch between Wi-Fi and cellular, or move somewhere with better signal.
  2. Fully close HARK (swipe it away in the app switcher) and reopen it.
  3. Make sure you’re on the latest version (App Store → search HARK → Update).

If it keeps failing, send us the exact wording of the message. That tells us a lot.

Can I use HARK on more than one device?

You can sign in on any device. Two honest things to know: your HARK Pro subscription follows your Apple ID automatically (tap Restore Purchases on the new device). But your private session history and journals live on each device. They don’t copy over, by design, because that content never leaves your phone. Anything you shared to a Circle or Community is tied to your account and shows up wherever you sign in.

I’m getting a new phone. Will my sessions come with me?

Your shared content (Circle posts, Community posts, Pro) follows your account. Your private on-device history (past sessions, journals, mindmaps) stays on the old phone because HARK keeps it local for privacy. It’s never uploaded, so there’s nothing to restore from the cloud. If there’s something private you want to keep, open it before you switch and use Share / Export to save it (e.g. to Notes or a file) first.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: You → Delete my account. That permanently removes your account, profile, Circles you own and belong to, shared sessions, comments, profile photo, push tokens, and Foundations progress, and wipes local data on that device. When you delete your account you choose whether your Community posts go with you; the switch is on by default. If you leave it on, your testimonies, prayer requests, wins and Listened lines are removed. If you turn it off, they stay without your name, so nothing links them to you. Prefer email? Write support@harktime.com and we’ll do it for you.

03 Sessions, sound & capture

Audio, interruptions, and keeping what surfaces.

Do I have to type what surfaces, or can I speak?

Both, and you choose. There are two capture modes, with one promise behind them: anything HARK transcribes is transcribed on your device, always. Your voice never goes to a server, not ours and not anyone’s.

  • Type as you go. The capture field sits under the timer, so you can type what surfaces and file it with one tap. Prefer to speak here too? The mic key on your keyboard types your words for you, in the same field and the same flow.
  • Hands-Free (part of HARK Pro). The whole sit stays untouched. When the timer completes, a record step appears: speak everything that surfaced, one thought at a time, with a short pause between thoughts, and HARK keeps them separate. Pauses never end the take; it runs until you tap finish. Watch “Transcribing on this device…” become your words, then tag each piece yourself as a Thought, Revelation, Impression, Prayer, or Step. Merge and Split controls fix anything that got joined or split wrong; no AI decides what your words mean. The recording is deleted the moment transcription finishes.

Pick the mode on the Capture card on Listen (or in Atmosphere’s session settings). HARK remembers your choice.

A call or Siri interrupted me mid-capture. Did I lose my words?

No. A call, Siri, an alarm, or switching apps mid-capture doesn’t lose what you’ve said or typed. It’s there when you come back. The ambient bed also picks itself back up when you return to HARK.

I can’t hear any sound
  1. Check the side mute switch on your iPhone (the little toggle above the volume buttons). HARK plays through the mute switch on purpose, the way most meditation apps do, so a sit is never silenced by accident. Use the volume buttons to make it quieter.
  2. Turn the volume up with the physical buttons while a session is playing.
  3. If you’re on Bluetooth earbuds, confirm they’re connected to this device and not another.
  4. Try once with earbuds unplugged to rule out the headphones.
The sound stopped when a call or alarm came in

That’s iOS pausing audio for the interruption, and it’s normal. When you come back to HARK, the ambient bed picks back up on its own. If it doesn’t, tap pause and play once to re-start it. (On iPad this is rarer because it’s not handling calls.)

A session won’t start or seems frozen
  1. Fully close HARK (swipe up in the app switcher) and reopen it.
  2. Make sure the app is updated (App Store → HARK → Update).
  3. Restart the device if it’s been up for a long time.

If a specific track always hangs, tell us which one. That’s a bug we’d want to fix fast.

I lost a session I was in the middle of

HARK saves what you capture as you go, so completed captures should still be in your history (open Journey or your session history). If a session was interrupted before you saved, that in-progress text may not persist. We keep as little as possible on purpose. Going forward, tapping Save at each capture step locks it in.

04 Bible study & Notes

Verse studies, the Commentary Library, and your on-device notebook.

What is “Study this verse”?

Tap any verse in The Bible and choose Study this verse: one quiet page with real cross-references, the Hebrew or Greek behind the key words, commentary from named authors, and an invitation to carry the verse into your journal. One rule shapes the whole page: every word of teaching was written by a named human being. Nothing is summarized, paraphrased, or generated by AI. Verse studies are part of HARK Pro, everything works offline, and what you study stays on your device.

Who are the five commentary voices?

Each excerpt sits under its author’s name and year, so you always know who is speaking and from which century:

  • Matthew Henry (warm, 1710) and Jamieson-Fausset-Brown (precise, 1871) speak on every book.
  • John Gill (deep and thorough, 1763) and Albert Barnes (clear and pastoral, 1834) speak on the best-loved books out of the box (Genesis, Psalms, the four Gospels, Romans), and on all 66 books via the Commentary Library.
  • Charles Spurgeon still closes every Psalm.

These are honest excerpts from the real works, trimmed at sentence boundaries. Tap a card to read the fuller entry.

What is the Commentary Library?

Gill and Barnes both wrote on the whole Bible, and shipping every word inside the app would double its size, so the rest comes as a one-time download. Tap once and Gill’s Exposition (about 34 MB) or Barnes’ Notes (about 17 MB) arrives for all 66 books, kept on your device and read offline from then on. A few honest details:

  • Wi-Fi is the kind choice for your data plan, and the library tells you the size up front.
  • Interruptions don’t cost you. After a call, a dead battery, or closing the app mid-download, come back and it resumes where it stopped, never from zero.
  • The only thing the internet ever sees is the download itself. Which verses you open never leaves your device.
  • Delete a pack anytime to free the space; download it again whenever you like.

Find it on any verse study page (the Commentary Library line at the bottom) or on the Bible page. It is part of HARK Pro.

Where do Notes live, and can I get them out?

Notes are your study notebook, and they’re free. They are stored on your device. They are never synced or uploaded, and no account is required. It’s a real notebook, not a text box: headings, bullets, and checklists, with a toolbar above the keyboard, and a per-note serif “notebook style” for the pages that feel like a journal. From any verse study, Add to Notes brings in the verse plus only the key words, cross-references, and commentaries you tick. To take a note anywhere else, tap Export. It opens the share sheet, so you can send it to Apple Notes (or anywhere) with its headings, bullets, and checkboxes intact.

05 HARK Insights (AI)

The optional AI reflection at the end of a session.

My Insights won’t generate / I get an error
  1. Check your connection. When your device supports it, Insights can generate on the device; otherwise they need the internet (the rest of HARK does not).
  2. Make sure AI is turned on: You → toggle HARK Insights on.
  3. HARK Insights are part of HARK Pro. On the free practice the Insights step does not appear inside a session; the Done screen carries a single line about it instead. That is expected, and every session still finishes without it.
  4. Try again in a minute. Occasionally the AI service is briefly busy.

If it still fails, email us the wording of the message.

Why won’t the AI just tell me “God said…”?

That’s on purpose, and we won’t change it. HARK’s AI will never claim to speak for God or tell you definitively that what you sensed is from Him. It reflects back what you captured, points you to Scripture, and offers gentle “perhaps / consider” language. Discernment belongs to you, your Bible, and trusted people. It does not belong to an app.

Can I use HARK completely without AI?

Yes. Every session works start to finish with AI off. Turn it off any time in Profile. Nothing about your session leaves the device when Insights are off.

What does the AI actually see about me?

There are two hops, and they see different things. The AI provider (Anthropic) receives only what is needed for that one reflection: your first name (for the letter), your persona, your Life Context paragraph if you wrote one, and that session’s content. It never receives your email, your account ID, your location, or a device identifier. HARK’s own proxy, which passes the request along, sees a random per-install ID and, when you are signed in, your sign-in token; it uses them only to limit how many requests one device or account can make, and it does not log your content. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

06 HARK Circle

The small, invite-only group you choose to share with.

My invite code isn’t working
  • Codes are single-use. If someone already joined with it, ask the owner for a fresh one.
  • Type it exactly, no extra spaces; codes aren’t case-sensitive but stray characters break them.
  • Circles hold up to 8 people; if the Circle is full, the code won’t accept new members.
  • Make sure you’re signed in first, because joining a Circle needs an account.
I shared a session but it’s not showing in the Circle
  1. Confirm you tapped the fields you meant to share. Sharing is per-field, so if nothing was checked, nothing posts.
  2. Pull down to refresh the Circle feed.
  3. Check you shared to the right Circle if you’re in more than one.
How do I remove something I shared, or a win?

Open the shared item in the Circle and use Remove (you can only remove your own). It disappears for everyone in the Circle. Removing a shared session doesn’t touch your private original. That’s always still on your device.

Why did I get notified about my own post?

You shouldn’t be notified about your own post. We fixed that. If you’re on an older version and still see it, update HARK in the App Store and it’ll stop.

07 Community

The public river of testimonies and prayer, where posting anonymously is always one switch away.

Is the Community really anonymous?

It is anonymous when you choose it. A public post (Testimonies, Prayer Room, Wins) carries your display name unless you turn on Post anonymously before you post. Listened lines are always anonymous. When a post is anonymous, our servers never return the author to anyone, so the protection is enforced on our servers and not just hidden in the app. If you later delete your account, you choose whether your posts are removed with it or stay up with nothing tying them to you.

My post isn’t appearing
  • Pull to refresh. Posts are visible as soon as they are saved; there is no approval step, but the feed does not refresh itself while you are looking at it.
  • Check the room: a testimony appears in Testimonies, a prayer request in the Prayer Room, a win in Wins, and a verse in Listened.
  • If it never shows and you think it should, email us with roughly when you posted.
How do I report something harmful?

Open the menu on any post and choose Report, then pick a reason (crisis, harassment, spam, or off-tone) and add a note if you like. Every report reaches the HARK team the moment it is filed and is acted on as soon as it is seen, usually the same day. Anything that reads as an immediate safety concern is handled first. The team removes anything that breaks the Community Guidelines. Choosing the crisis reason also shows crisis resources right away. If it’s urgent or involves someone’s safety, also email support@harktime.com.

How do I delete a post I made?

Open the post’s menu and choose Delete. If your version of HARK does not show that option yet, update the app, or email support@harktime.com with roughly when you posted and we will remove it for you.

08 Reminders & notifications

Gentle nudges to make time to listen.

I’m not getting my reminders
  1. Check iOS: Settings → Notifications → HARK and make sure Allow Notifications is on.
  2. Turn on the reminder inside HARK (the You tab) and set a time.
  3. Check Focus / Do Not Disturb isn’t silencing them at that hour.
The reminders are too frequent, or I want to change the time

Open Profile and adjust or turn off reminders there. You’re always in control of whether and when HARK nudges you. It should feel like an invitation, never pressure.

09 HARK Pro & billing

The optional subscription. Billing is handled by Apple.

What’s free, and what does HARK Pro add?

The practice is free forever: the daily listening session (with Sacred Silence or Gentle Rain), capturing what surfaces by typing, Reflect and Discern, your private journal and Notes, the full Bible reader, joining one Circle by invite, reading and posting in the public Community, and your own session history. HARK Pro adds the life around it: every soundscape and all the HARK music playlists, guided listening, Hands-Free voice capture, all structured tracks, HARK Insights (AI), creating Circles, joining more than one, and sharing your sessions into a Circle, the Journey suite (Prayer Diary, Steps, Wins, Ask the Impossible), verse studies with five named commentary voices, and the downloadable Commentary Library.

Is there a free trial?

Yes, when you are eligible. HARK Pro offers a 7-day free trial to subscribers who have not used an introductory offer before; the upgrade screen shows whether it applies to you. You can cancel anytime during the trial and you won’t be charged. After the trial, the subscription renews at the price shown on the upgrade screen until you cancel in your Apple ID settings.

I paid but Pro isn’t showing / I’m on a new device
  1. Open the subscription screen in HARK and tap Restore Purchases.
  2. Make sure you’re signed into the same Apple ID you bought it with.
  3. Give it a moment. Apple sometimes takes a minute to confirm.
My purchase is “pending” and won’t finish

If your Apple ID uses Ask to Buy (common on family accounts), the purchase waits for a parent/organizer to approve it. That’s not a failure. Once it is approved, Pro turns on automatically. Nothing is charged until it’s approved.

How do I cancel, or get a refund?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not inside HARK. To cancel: iPhone Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → HARK → Cancel. You keep Pro until the period ends. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something went wrong on our side, email us and we’ll help you get it sorted with Apple.

Does Pro work with Family Sharing?

If you enable Family Sharing for the subscription in your Apple settings, your family group can share it per Apple’s rules. Each person still uses their own HARK account and their own private, on-device history.

10 Privacy & App Lock

Where your content lives, and how to lock it down.

Where does my session content actually live?

On your device, in encrypted local storage. Sessions, journals, mindmaps, and prayers never leave your phone unless you do one of three things: generate AI Insights (sends that one session), share to your Circle (only the fields you check), or post to the public Community. Everything else is local. Details: Privacy Policy.

How do I lock HARK behind Face ID?

Turn on App Lock in the You tab. Then HARK asks for Face ID (or your passcode) each time you open it, and it drops a privacy cover over the screen when you switch apps, so your reflections don’t show in the app switcher. If your device has no Face ID or passcode set, App Lock can’t engage; add a passcode in iOS Settings first.

Face ID isn’t unlocking HARK
  1. Confirm Face ID works elsewhere (unlocking the phone).
  2. Check iOS Settings → Face ID & Passcode and that HARK is allowed to use it.
  3. You can always fall back to your device passcode on the lock prompt.

11 Accessibility

HARK is built to work with assistive technology.

Does HARK work with VoiceOver and large text?

Yes. Controls are labeled for VoiceOver, text follows your device’s text-size setting, and meaning is never carried by color alone. If any screen is hard to use with a screen reader, keyboard, or large text, please tell us. We treat that as a priority.

How do I report an accessibility barrier?

Email support@harktime.com with the subject “Accessibility” and what got in your way. We aim to respond within 5 business days. See our full Accessibility Statement.

12 Something looks wrong

Layout looks off, app feels stale, or it just isn’t behaving.

The app looks broken, cut off, or out of date
  1. Update HARK: App Store → search HARK → Update (an old version is the most common cause).
  2. Fully close HARK (swipe it away) and reopen.
  3. Restart the device.

If it still looks wrong, a screenshot helps us enormously. Send it to support@harktime.com.

HARK crashed

Reopen it. Your saved content is safe on the device. If it crashes in the same spot repeatedly, tell us exactly what you were doing right before. We watch crash reports closely and fix them quickly.

None of this fixed it

Email support@harktime.com with your device model, the HARK version (You → About), and a sentence on what happened. A real person on the HARK team will get back to you.

13 In a crisis

HARK is a companion, not emergency or clinical care.

If you or someone you know is in danger or thinking about self-harm, please reach out for real, immediate help. In the U.S. you can call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), any time. Outside the U.S., contact your local emergency number. HARK also has a Crisis Help screen inside the app (You → About → In crisis) with these resources one tap away.
